Pediatric Monteggia Fracture Dislocation

  • Etiology: Trauma
  • Imaging Radiograph:
    — Fracture of proximal ulna with dislocation of the radiocapitellar joint
    — Dislocation of the radial head so radial shaft line does not align or intersect with capitellum
  • DDX: MUGR – Monteggia is ulna fracture, Galeazzi is radius fracture
  • Complications:

Radiology Cases of Monteggia Fracture Dislocation

Radiograph of Monteggia fracture dislocation
AP and lateral radiographs of the elbow show a fracture of the ulnar diaphysis and a dislocation of the radial head.
Radiograph of Monteggia fracture dislocation
AP radiograph of the forearm shows a fracture of the proximal ulna, disruption of radioulnar joint, and radial head dislocation as the radial shaft line does not align / intersect with the capitellum.
Radiograph of Monteggia fracture dislocation
AP (left) and lateral (right) radiographs of the forearm show a fracture of proximal ulna, disruption of radioulnar joint, and dislocation of the radial head.
