Rubella

  • Etiology: Togavirus is a neurotropic virus which replicates in placenta causing meningoencephalitis and vasculitis which leads to ischemia and microcephaly
  • Imaging Radiograph Musculoskeletal:
    — Metaphyseal fraying and longitudinal alternating radiolucent and radiodense stripes gives celery stalking appearance
  • Imaging Neurological:
    — Early infection: Near total brain destruction, microcephaly
    — Later infection: Ventriculomegaly, myelination abnormality, patchy frontal periventricular signal abnormalities (similar to cytomegalovirus), basal ganglia calcification, cystic changes
  • DDX:
  • Complications: Hearing loss, cataracts, glaucoma, retardation
  • Treatment:
  • Clinical:
