Pediatric Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension

  • Etiology:
    — Spinal cerebrospinal fluid leak (root cysts or dural hole or dural tear or bony abnormality or nude nerve root)
    — Inadequate cerebrospinal fluid production
    — Rapid cerebrospinal fluid absorption
    — Never caused by cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea-otorrhea
  • Imaging: SEEPS
    — Subdural fluid collection
    — Enhancement of meninges
    — Engorgement of veins
    — Pituitary hyperemia
    — Sagging of brain
  • DDX:
  • Complications:
  • Treatment: For cerebrospinal fluid leak epidural blood patching more common than glue which is more common than surgery
  • Clinical:
    — Uncommon but not rare
    — Presents with headaches
