- Urachal remnant – Patent urachus drains urine
- Urachal remnant – Urachal sinus drains pus
- Patent omphalomesenteric (vitelline) duct connected to a Meckel diverticulum drains stool
Approach to the differential diagnosis of umbilical drainage:
- US is the first step in imaging
- Scanning between the umbilicus and the bladder will allow for the identification of a urachal remnant
- Scanning circumfirentially around the umbilicus may allow for the identification of a Meckel diverticulum
