Approach to the differential diagnosis of cervical vertebral junction anomalies:
- Basilar invagination – tip of the dens projects above the foramen magnum
- Platybasia – flattening of the skull base
- Os odontoideum – smooth well-corticated ossicle in close approximation to the dens
