Approach to the differential diagnosis of Chiari malformations:
- Chiari I malformation has low lying cerebellar tonsils
- Chiari II malformation has small posterior fossa, low lying cerebellar tonsils, kinking of the cervical spinal cord and a lumbar myelomeningocele
- Chiari III malformation has small posterior fossa, low lying cerebellar tonsils, kinking of the cervical spinal cord and an occipital encephalocele
