Approach to differential diagnosis of premature brain cysts:

• Subependymal cyst from in-utero neonatal intraventricular hemorrhage grade I is located in the germinal matrix
• Choroid plexus cyst is located in the choroid plexus
• Connatal cyst is located just lateral to the superolateral angles of the anterior horns of the lateral ventricles
• Periventricular leukomalacia cavitation usually occurs as a bilateral process
• Periventricular hemorrhage cavitation usually occurs as a unilateral process
