Pediatric COVID-19 Pneumonia
Etiology: COVID-19 virus
Imaging CXR: Multifocal ground-glass opacity
Imaging CT: — CT more sensitive than CXR — Ground glass opacities are bilateral and peripheral and subpleural in posterior mid to lower lungs — Evolution is halo sign seen early due to local inflammation and vascular congestion, then see progressive diffuse ground glass opacity as inflammation spreads to adjacent alveoli, finally see development of consolidative opacities as alveoli become filled with fluid and inflammatory cells — Lymphadenopathy and pleural effusions are rare — Crazy paving less common than in adults
DDX:
Complications: MIS-C which can have findings of bowel wall thickening and enlarged abdominal lymph nodes
Treatment: Antivirals in some cases
Clinical:
Radiology Cases of COVID-19 Pneumonia
