Dacrocystocele

  • Etiology: Congenital occlusion due to failure of perforation of distal nasolacrimal duct resulting in dilated endonasal sac
  • Imaging: Dumbell appearing cyst with inferomedial canthal and intranasal components
  • DDX:
  • Complications: Bilateral dacrocystoceles result in nasal obstruction and respiratory distress
  • Treatment:
    — Perforation in delivery suite often curative
    — Usually self-resolving by 6-12 months
  • Clinical:

Radiology Cases of Dacrocystocele

CT of dacrocystocele
Axial (above) and coronal (below) CT without contrast of the orbits show a left inferomedial low density bilobed mass extending from the left medial canthus through the lacrimal duct into the left inferior nasal cavity.
CT of dacrocystocele
Axial (above) and coronal (below) CT with contrast of the orbits show an oval low density lesion with a thin enhancing wall located along the course of the right nasolacrimal duct.
