Freiberg Disease

• Etiology:
  — Avascular necrosis of subchondral bone of metatarsal heads
  — Associated with repeated trauma and high heels
• Imaging Radiograph:
  — Sclerosis and fragmentation of second metatarsal head, but can also be third or fourth metatarsal head
  — Bilateral in 10%
• Imaging Bone scan: Photopenic in acute phase with high uptake in subacute and chronic phase
