Pediatric Fungal Ball of Urinary Tract

  • Etiology: Candidemia is the cause while the fungal ball is an agglutination of fungal organisms and mucoid debris
  • Imaging US: Round mixed echogenicity lesion in renal pelvis
  • DDX: Hematoma, nephrolithiasis, inflammatory debris
  • Complications: May cause patient to be refractory to pharmacotherapy
  • Treatment: Systemic antifungal therapy
  • Clinical: Usually not symptomatic themselves
