  • Etiology:
  • Imaging of both:
    — May or may not show direct evidence of extension from a joint
    — Anechoic or hypoechoic with posterior acoustic enhancement
    — Uniloculated or multiloculated with thin walls and septations
  • Imaging of ganglion cyst:
    — Lacks synovial lining
    — Contains gelatinous contents
    — May be less compressible than synovial cysts
  • Imaging of synovial cyst: May show some peripheral vascularity
