Etiology: Alternating cycles of osseous growth arrest and growth resumption resulting from pathologic levels of stress during bone development such as disease and malnutrition
Imaging Radiograph: Transverse sclerotic lines in metaphyses of long bones
Imaging CT: Transverse sclerotic lines in metaphyses of long bones
Imaging MRI:
— T1WI: Hypointense bands
— T2WI: Hypointense bands

Radiology Cases of Growth Arrest Lines

Radiograph of growth arrest lines in the long bones — AP radiograph of the lower extremity shows two dense fine lines in the proximal metaphysis of the femur, and in the proximal and distal metaphyses of the tibia and fibula.

Radiograph of growth arrest lines — AP radiograph of the hip shows multiple transverse densely sclerotic lines in metaphyses of the proximal left femur. There are also multiple curved faintly sclerotic lines in the left iliac bone.
