Pediatric Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Etiology: Autoimmune polyradiculopathy involving sensory and motor and autonomic nerves usually preceded by upper respiratory tract infections or gastrointestinal infections
Imaging MRI: — T1WI post contrast: Thickening and enhancement of spinal nerve roots especially in cauda equina and conus medullaris with anterior nerve roots enhancing more commonly than posterior nerve roots
DDX:
Complications:
Treatment: Intravenous immunoglobulin or plasmapheresis
Clinical: Presents with symmetrical ascending weakness and areflexia or hyporeflexia and variable sensory or autonomic involvement
Radiology Cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Sagittal (left and middle) and axial (right) T1 MRI with contrast of the lumbar spine shows diffuse enhancement of the anterior and posterior nerve roots of the cauda equina.
