Hemochromatosis neonatal

  • Etiology:
  • Imaging: Combination of:
    — Severe liver disease – cirrhosis or fulminant liver failure and iron deposition in liver and other organs
    — Sparing of reticuloendothelial system – no siderosis in spleen or marrow or lymph nodes
    — Extrahepatic siderosis in pancreas and myocardium and thyroid and minor salivary glands

  • Clinical:
    — Common cause of neonatal liver failure
    — Clinically different from hereditary hemochromatosis
    — To diagnose this you need neonatal liver failure and extrahepatic siderosis as severe hepatic siderosis is not enough to make diagnosis
