Pediatric Hemosiderosis

  • Etiology: Accumulation of hemosiderin in reticuloendothelial system which does not cause organ damage
  • Imaging CT: Marked homogeneous increase in liver density (75-130 HU) is seen making portal veins and hepatic veins appear to be low attenuation in comparison to liver on non-contrast CT
  • Imaging MRI:
    — T2WI: Liver hypointense, spleen hypointense and normal in size
  • DDX:
  • Complications:
  • Treatment:
  • Clinical: Transfusion-related is most common cause
