Pediatric Hemosiderosis
Etiology: Accumulation of hemosiderin in reticuloendothelial system which does not cause organ damage
Imaging CT: Marked homogeneous increase in liver density (75-130 HU) is seen making portal veins and hepatic veins appear to be low attenuation in comparison to liver on non-contrast CT
Imaging MRI: — T2WI: Liver hypointense, spleen hypointense and normal in size
DDX:
Complications:
Treatment:
Clinical: Transfusion-related is most common cause
Radiology Cases of Hemosiderosis
Axial CT without contrast of the abdomen shows a marked homogeneous increase in liver density which is making the portal veins and hepatic veins appear to be low attenuation in comparison to the liver.
