Pediatric Ileus

  • Etiology: Opiates, sepsis
  • Imaging AXR: On AXR supine the gastrointestinal tract is distended with air from the stomach to the rectum, on AXR upright air fluid levels are seen in the small bowel and colon
  • DDX: Small bowel obstruction
  • Complications:
  • Treatment: Decrease the opiates, treat the sepsis
  • Clinical: Commonly seen in post operative patients
