Lacunar Skull

  • Etiology: appropriate fetal ventricular expansion + intracranial pressure leads to collagen bundle of calvarial plates being arranged in orderly radial fashion, in patients with myelomeningocele ventricular pressure is decompressed into dilated CSF space resulting in disordered arrangement of collage bundle + thus lacunar appearance of skull
  • Clinical: nothing to do with intracranial pressure, spontaneous resolution by 6 months, associated with Chiari II

Lateral radiograph of the skull shows a disordered arrangement of the inner table of the skull.
