Pediatric Lumbar Hernia

  • Etiology: Blunt trauma with handlebar injury most common cause
  • Imaging:
    — Soft tissue swelling at site of injury
    — Posterior abdominal wall hernia where there is protrusion of abdominal contents through the lumbar triangle
  • DDX:
  • Complications: Look for other internal injuries
  • Treatment: Surgical
  • Clinical:
    — Rare
    — May not see herniation of abdominal contents until much later after injury
