Pediatric Mallet Finger Fracture

  • Etiology:
    — Injury of extensor mechanism of finger at distal interphalangeal joint
    — Distal interphalangeal joint undergoes sudden flexion or crush injury in the extensor direction
  • Imaging Radiograph:
–Classically see triangular avulsion fragment at insertion of common extensor tendon on dorsal aspect of distal phalanx at distal interphalangeal joint
    — However high percentage of injuries due not have avulsion fragment
  • DDX:
  • Complications:
  • Treatment:
  • Clinical: Presents with inability to extend finger at distal interphalangeal joint
