Etiology: Sterile bowel contents of fetus which are expelled in first stool, composed of materials ingested in utero: intestinal epithelial cells, lanugo, mucous, amniotic fluid, bile, water
Clinical: Visually is viscous, sticky, tar-like, dark in color
