Osteopetrosis

  • Etiology: dysfunctional osteoclasts leads to undertubulation of bones (Erlenmeyer flask deformity) and osteosclerosis
  • Imaging: bone within bone, thick skull, bone is solid but brittle so see transverse fractures
  • Clinical: blindness with encroachment of optic foramina

Radiology Cases of Osteopetrosis

AP radiograph of the pelvis shows an osteosclerotic appearance to the bones with obliteration of the marrow spaces and a developing bone within bone appearance especially in the femurs.
