Osteopetrosis

  • Etiology: Dysfunctional osteoclasts leads to undertubulation of bones (Erlenmeyer flask deformity) and osteosclerosis
  • Imaging Radiograph:
    — Bone within bone
    — Thick skull
    — Bone is solid but brittle so see transverse fractures in bones

  • Clinical: Blindness with encroachment of optic foramina

AP radiograph of the pelvis shows an osteosclerotic appearance to the bones with obliteration of the marrow spaces and a developing bone within bone appearance especially in the femurs.
