Pediatric Renal Artery Thrombosis

  • Etiology:
    — In infants – indwelling umbilical arterial catheter
    — In older children – blunt abdominal trauma leading to renal artery dissection
  • Imaging: Infarcted kidney is edematous and enlarged
  • Imaging CT: Cortical rim sign = enhancement of only renal cortex as renal cortex supplied by capsular artery
  • DDX:
  • Complications: Loss of renal function
  • Treatment: Revascularization of renal artery
