Imaging Small bowel follow through: — Small bowel dilatation proportional to disease severity — Barium flocculation due to intestinal hypersecretion — Jejunoileal fold pattern reversal — Hypersecretion and mucosal atrophy (moulage sign) — Transient non-obstructive intussusception, duodenal nodular changes
DDX:
Complications: If disease is uncontrolled there is increased risk of small bowel lymphoma and carcinoma
Treatment:
Clinical:
Radiology Cases of Sprue
AP image from late in a small bowel follow through exam shows small bowel dilatation and
jejunoileal fold pattern reversal in which the loops of jejunum in the center of the image resemble loops of ileum.AP image from early (above) and late (below) in a small bowel follow through exam show diffuse small bowel dilatation and jejunoileal fold pattern reversal in which the loops of jejunum in the above image resemble loops of ileum and the loops of ileum in the below image resemble loops of jejunum especially near the distal ileum.
