Tamm Horsfall Proteins

  • Etiology: Tamm-Horsfall proteins are physiologically excreted by the renal tubular epithelium
  • Imaging: concentrated Tamm-Horsfall proteins in renal pyramids may mimic nonobstructing renal stones
  • DDX: renal stones, nephrocalcinosis
  • Clinical: commonly seen on neonatal renal ultrasound and resolve by the end of the neonatal period
