Pediatric Tracheal Bronchus
Etiology: Anatomical variant where accessory bronchus originates directly from right lateral wall of supracarinal trachea
Imaging: Bronchus arising from right lateral wall of trachea above carina
DDX:
Complications: Recurrent right upper lobe pneumonia
Treatment:
Clinical: — Usually asymptomatic and incidentally discovered — May present with recurrent right upper lobe pneumonia
Radiology Cases of Tracheal Bronchus
Vintage tomogram of the chest (above) shows an opacity medially in the right upper lobe. There are two lucent bronchi arising from the right lateral wall of the trachea just above the level of the carina. These two bronchi arising from the trachea are better demonstrated on the vintage bronchogram (below).
