Pediatric Tracheal Stenosis
Etiology: — Post intubation due to pressure necrosis from balloon of endotracheal tube — External compression on the trachea from a crossing vessel
Imaging: Diffuse or focal narrowing of the trachea
DDX:
Complications: Tracheomalacia
Treatment:
Clinical:
Radiology Cases of Tracheal Stenosis
Coronal CT without contrast of the chest shows the trachea to be narrowed over a length of 2 cm from the thoracic inlet downward. At its narrowest, the trachea measured only 2 mm in diameter. There was also narrowing of the proximal right mainstem bronchus at its origin.
Radiology Cases of Tracheal Stenosis Due to Pulmonary Sling
Axial CT with contrast of the chest shows the left pulmonary artery arising from the right pulmonary artery and then coursing posterior to the trachea and anterior to the esophagus, causing focal narrowing of the trachea at this level.
