Pediatric Vertebral Hemangioma
Etiology: Venous malformation
Imaging: Usually in thoracic spine
Imaging CT: — Axial CT shows polka dot or salt and pepper appearance due to thickened vertebral trabeculae — Sagittal CT shows corduroy sign due to thicker vertical trabeculae
Imaging MRI: — T1WI: Typical lipid-rich hemangioma has high signal while atypical lipid-poor hemangioma has low signal — T1WI post contrast: Significant enhancement due to high vascularity — T2WI: Bright signal usually greater than on T1 due to high water content
DDX:
Complications:
Treatment: Usually not necessary
Clinical: Usually asymptomatic and noticed incidentally
