Pediatric genitogram

  • Patient preparation: none
  • Contrast used: low osmolar water soluble
  • Technique: attempt to catheterize every orifice if possible – urethra / vagina / rectum and fill each with contrast, if only one anterior orifice seen consider using small Foley catheter and inflating balloon and inserting tip into orifice and using inflated balloon outside orifice to provide a tight seal, consider doing ultrasound of the pelvis at the same time while bladder is fully distended
  • Images to obtain: AP, lateral oblique views of the pelvis
  • Looking for: contour of the urethra and its connection to vagina, presence of uterus, rectovaginal fistula
