Ultrasound for pediatric palpable mass

  • Technique: linear transducer, consider using a standoff pad
  • Images to obtain: transverse and sagittal grayscale and color doppler images of the palpable mass
  • Looking for: characteristic features of a lymph node or simple cyst or vascular malformation or hematoma or pilomatrixoma or bone or scalloping of underlying skull bone as would be see in dermoid / epidermoid of scalp, note lipoma or sarcoma have non-specific appearance
