DDX of non-bacterial / non-viral pneumonia

Approach to the DDX of non-bacterial / non-viral pneumonia:

  • Chlamydia pneumonia should be suspected in a 1-2 month old with diffuse interstitial infiltrates, and can be difficult to distinguish radiographically from viral pneumonia
  • Mycoplasma pneumonia should be suspected in school agers and teenagers, and it can mimic viral pneumonia or bacterial pneumonia radiographically
