- Heterotopia
- Lissencephaly Type I and Lissencephaly Type II
- Diffuse Polymicrogyria and Bilateral Perisylvian Polymicrogyria
- Schizencephaly
Approach to the differential diagnosis of malformations of cortical migration:
- Heterotopia – abnormal placement of gray matter between the ventricular system and brain cortex
- Lissencephaly – diffusely decreased gyration and sulcation of the brain leaving it with a diffusely smoother than normal appearance
- Polymicrogyria – focal areas of small haphazard appearing gyri with too few sulci
- Schizencephaly – gray matter cleft extending from the cortex to the ventricle
